This project began when a longtime friend and client reached out to update his hall bathroom—fully functional, but clearly dated. After providing an initial budget range, we typically guide clients through in-person showroom selections. With a busy schedule, he opted to streamline the process by partnering with a trusted designer, allowing us to keep the project moving efficiently.

The existing space featured a traditional tub, an unconventional vanity, and a storage cabinet above the toilet. To better suit the home’s needs and style, we converted the tub into a walk-in shower with a clean, modern layout. A stationary glass panel with an open entry creates an airy feel, while thoughtful fixture placement enhances usability. The shower includes a fixed head and handheld option, controlled by a single valve with an integrated diverter.

To elevate the overall look, quartz was used for the shower curb, niche, and windowsill—providing a seamless, low-maintenance finish. Oil-rubbed bronze plumbing fixtures were selected to complement the home’s rustic aesthetic.

The new vanity features a warm wood tone with a full-width open shelf and upper drawers for practical storage. Paired with a darker countertop, it ties in beautifully with the knotty pine millwork found throughout the home.

Lighting and functionality were also significantly improved. Outdated fixtures were replaced with recessed ceiling lights and a backlit mirror for optimal task lighting. A new ventilation fan with a timer switch helps manage humidity in this infrequently used space, and additional outlets were installed on either side of the vanity for convenience.

Finishing touches included updated paint colors to highlight the tile and quartz, along with refinishing the existing over-toilet cabinet to match the walls and coordinating it with new hardware.

The result is a refreshed, cohesive bathroom that blends modern function with rustic character—and the client is already planning his next project: a full master bathroom upgrade.
