These long-time clients have trusted us with several renovation projects over the years, including work for both a sibling and their mother. For this bathroom remodel, the original layout featured a small shower, a closet, a vanity tucked into an alcove, and a separate toilet area.
To improve both function and flow, we relocated the closet door to the adjacent hallway, allowing us to significantly expand the shower. We also gained additional square footage by reducing a 10-inch-thick wall down to a standard 4½-inch wall—an adjustment that required some creative framing solutions along the way.
The clients made the selection process seamless. With just one meeting at Wholesale Flooring Services, all tile choices were finalized. The same efficiency carried over to plumbing fixtures, with a single visit to Ferguson alongside our design partner.
The new shower maintains its original width but extends several feet longer, creating a much more open and comfortable space. A single glass panel provides a clean, modern barrier between the shower and the rest of the bathroom. The valve is positioned just inside the entrance, with a small niche above for convenience, while a larger niche is located on the back wall. An adjustable hydro-rail shower head is installed on the wall opposite the valve. Due to the existing radiant in-floor heating, the drain location remained unchanged.
We replaced the original vanity with a new piece from Room & Board, keeping it in the same location but elevating both style and functionality. The new vanity features full drawer storage and an open base, giving it a furniture-like feel. Updated lighting includes in-ceiling fixtures, a statement pendant between the sinks, and lighted mirrors for each vanity.
To complete the transformation, we updated the paint throughout the bathroom to reflect a more sophisticated, cohesive look. This extended into the adjacent primary bedroom—where we also replaced the flooring and baseboards—as well as the full length of the connecting hallway. By applying the same color palette throughout, including painting the previously dark-stained doors and millwork, the entire space feels brighter and more unified. The transformation has been so impactful that the clients are now considering carrying this update through the rest of their home.
