A Mid-Century Modern Revival
This project came to us through our design partner, Justine Marie Designs. The homeowners had previously remodeled their kitchen and much of their interior, leaving the bathrooms as the final step in their home’s transformation. While the existing layouts were functional, the fixtures and finishes were dated and ready for an update.
The remodel was completed in two phases:
Phase 1: The two upstairs bathrooms
Phase 2: The basement bathroom
Primary Bathroom
The primary bath received a complete refresh focused on functionality and modern design. The outdated short, single-sink vanity was replaced with a standard-height double vanity, offering more usable space. A custom over-the-toilet cabinet provides additional storage above the new bidet toilet.
An existing window was replaced and raised to align with the new countertop height. The old sunken tub was removed and replaced with a spacious shower, featuring individual shower valves and diverters controlling both fixed and handheld showerheads. Each shower includes a niche, one featuring a quartzite shaving shelf that matches the vanity countertop.
The client selected a smooth wall tile complemented by randomly placed ridged accent tiles, adding subtle texture and interest. The heated hexagon tile floor extends into the shower for a seamless, elevated look. The shower is enclosed with frameless glass panels and a sliding door for a clean finish.
Upper Hall Bathroom
The hall bath was reimagined with an all-new vanity, countertop, sink, faucet, and an inset medicine cabinet for a streamlined appearance. The vanity’s design presented a challenge—narrower on one end—so we created a custom angled filler and shallow base cabinet to make the transition look intentional and polished.
A new bidet toilet and multi-function shower valve allow switching between the tub filler, fixed head, or handheld shower. The textured wall tile, new tile floor, and updated lighting complete this modern transformation.
Basement Bathroom
Downstairs, the basement bathroom took on a more playful, mid-century inspired aesthetic. A colorful tile floor sets the tone, paired with a floating vanity, new countertop, sink, and faucet. The client chose to reuse the original chrome mirror-light combination, adding authentic vintage charm.
The oblong shower tiles feature bold, randomly placed accents, and the refinished cast-iron tub brings the space together beautifully. A diverter valve controls the tub filler, fixed, and handheld showers, while additional lighting brightens and enlarges the room visually.
